Have you ever taken a minute to think about how much multi-tasking you do as a mom? Not only do you keep track of your own nutrition, health, appointments and schedule...you also take care of all that for all the tiny humans in your life. For me that means 3 schedules, 3 people's nutrition, health, and more. No wonder moms are so exhausted! When I'm running low on time and energy, my boys needs come first. I'm sure you can relate!
It took a lot of convincing from my husband, but I finally agreed to start trying to take at least a morning or afternoon once a week to let the boys go to their grandparents so that I can take some time for me. For me, this was SO hard. I tend to be overwhelmed with "mom guilt". It's hard for me to ask someone to watch the boys just so I can take care of me for a moment. I feel like when the boys aren't with me that I need to be getting all the errands done for the family.
However, this one afternoon a week has been life changing! That is not an over reaction. Just a couple hours to be alone, relax, and do something for me has helped me in so many ways physically and mentally. Not only has this weekly "mommy timeout" helped mommy, it has been beneficial to the entire family. I'm less overwhelmed, more patient, and ready to take care of the family with a renewed and positive attitude.
It's so true that you can't pour from an empty cup. Moms, we have to take care of ourselves so that we can take care of our families. I know it's not always easy...but it is important! Talk to your husband about sneaking away one evening a week. Find a family member or friend to love on your babies for an afternoon. Just make it happen! Make it happen regularly!
Thank you to my husband for pushing me to take care of myself! Thank you to my boy's grandparents for loving on my babies so that I can fuel back up to love them better!
