Learning in Fall

Fall is a great season for exploration! It’s a perfect time to get the kids outside and see all the changes happening around them. I put together a list of different activities to try this Fall with your kids. These activities help children practice and master a variety of skills including language, following directions, fine motor, gross motor, cognitive skills, creativity and more!

Bake Apple Bread

-Have your kids help you measure, stir and pour! Show them the recipe and read it to them.

-Download the recipe at https://samcdowell14.wixsite.com/theycallmemom/downloads

Go On A Leaf Hunt

-Talk about all the fall things you see, smell, and hear. Gather leaves and discuss their differences/similarities. Jump and run through the leaves!

Felt Ghosts Poem

-Use felt or paper ghosts as a prop with this poem. Have the child help take away a ghost each time.

-"5 little ghosts flying out the door, one flew away and that left 4. 4 little ghosts playing happily, one flew away and that left 3. 3 little ghosts yelling boo boo boo, one flew away and that left 2. 2 little ghosts having spooky fun, one flew away and that left 1. 1 little ghost sleeping in the sun, flew back home and that left none."

5 Round Pumpkins

-Make some pumpkins to use as you recite this poem. Make up motions for the poem to make it more fun. Read It's Pumpkin Day Mouse for more pumpkin fun!

-"Five round pumpkins sitting on a gate, the first one said, "oh my it's getting late". The second one said, "there are witches in the air". The third one said, "I don't care". The fourth one said, "let's run and run and run". The fifth one said, "it's Halloween fun!". Whoosh went the wind and out went the lights and the five round pumpkins rolled out of sight."

Decorate A Pumpkin

-Use markers, paint, stickers, glue and collage materials, etc.

Explore A Pumpkin

-Let the child explore the outside of a pumpkin feeling it and then cut open the pumpkin and let the child explore the inside. Talk about how the different parts feel or smell, you can even bake the seeds for a snack or put some of the pumpkin goop in a ziplock bag for the child to keep as a squishy sensory bag for a few days.

Happy Fall and have a great time exploring with your kids!!
