Ready..Set..READ!!
I'm beginning a reading challenge for families that starts Saturday, March 30th. The challenge goes for 4 weeks and the goal is to read 100 books! Most of my targeted families have infants, toddlers and preschoolers so the books they will be reading are short and simple. For families that have older children that are reading longer more complex books, you can change your challenge number to something more realistic like 10-20 depending on your child's reading level and the length of books they are reading.
The purpose of this challenge is to get families engaged in reading together! Reading with your child every day is so important for their language development and so much more. If you are interested in taking the challenge...read more and also check on my Facebook page to see how you can join the challenge group. In this group, I will be posting extra challenges, fun activities, and information on reading.
I created a little gift box for my boys and for my nieces and nephew to invite them to the reading challenge. The box included a reading tracker sheet, stickers to track each book they read, a book for each child, a blank homemade book for them to write their own family story, and an invitation to the challenge. Here are a few pictures of what all was included in the box. I had everything at home in my craft supplies, other than the books for each child. I got the books from Dollar General, so it was not expensive at all to put together. You could put one together for your family or for another family to invite them to take the family reading challenge with you. I hope you will check out the challenge group and join us as we incorporate reading into our daily lives, enjoy reading as a family and show our children that reading is fun, enjoyable and important!

Homemade Book
I created a homemade book (for the families to create a story together) by using one piece of colored construction paper and four pieces of plain printer paper. I placed them on top of each other (construction paper on bottom), folded it in all in half and stapled it to make a book.
