Let's take a moment to look at how you take care of you. Do you take time to take care of yourself? If you've ever flown on an airplane, you should recall that during the safety speech they explain that if oxygen masks are needed you should put yours on first then help the others around you with their mask. This is very true with being a mom, dad, or caregiver of any kind. You can not properly and fully take care of others if you are not taking care of yourself. This could be physically, emotionally, or mentally. I know what you are thinking, "Who has time for that?" Well, you have to make time for yourself. I also know that being a parent takes up a lot of time and energy, but you have to make yourself a priority sometimes. You need to be able to refuel every once in awhile so that you can do the many amazing things that you do.
Self-care can take place in many forms. The only thing that matters is that it is something that reminds you to take a moment, breathe, and relax. Some find peace in physical activities like yoga or going for a run. Other ways to take a moment for yourself might be reading a book or coloring (yes, I still love to color as an adult). Take a bubble bath with some scented candles that help you relax or call/visit a friend who is always there for you.
Once you've decided how you want to take a moment for yourself, find the time and schedule it if you have to. Ask your significant other or a family member to watch the kids for a couple hours. Plan ahead and have all the things you need ready so that you can utilize nap time as "me time". Whatever you need to do to make sure that you're taking time to pause and reflect on the blessings in your life. Leave a comment and share with others how you find time for self-care or what you like to do to relax! Below is a picture of me at the driving range when I first decided to try out golf. I am HORRIBLE at golf, but for some reason it's something I enjoy and I wish I had more time to practice.
