Reading with your child is very important, even from a young age. Children are naturally curious about books, pictures and language. From the time your baby is born you can share books with them. Reading teaches children about language, new information, the process of reading and more! Below are some tips for establishing a love for reading in your child.

Tips
-set aside a time for reading every day
-take time to read at different times of the day or in different locations (outside, in bed, in a blanket fort)
-lead by example: let your child see you read throughout the day
-point out objects in the pictures
-ask questions throughout the story
-ask follow up questions after story
-let the child “read” to you
-point at words as you read them
-have a variety of books available (especially books about things your child is interested in)
-read throughout the day (at the store, as you cook, while driving, while waiting, etc)
-visit your local library to read, check out books (a lot of places have free library cards for children), or attend library events
